Many people find the thought of visiting
a therapist off-putting because they don’t
know what to expect. It can be a little scary
to some, to say the least!
Whilst Tanya can’t say how ‘all’ therapists
conduct their sessions, she can say that while
being a lecturer and teacher of clinical hypnosis
with psychotherapy, she took great time in
helping her students gain the understanding
that making sure we put our clients at ease
is essential.
In Tanya’s own consulting room, she likes
to work with lots of humour and friendliness.
Many of her clients report an elevation in
their moods just on their first visit to her.
Working with a therapist doesn’t have to be
all pain and hard work, it can be eased by
the therapist humanising the sessions. Many
of her clients have expressed concerns about
their fears of having to go and look at painful
stuff from the past, or having to make scary
decisions about the future. The secret is
to get past these limiting beliefs caused
by fear and once removed, changes happen automatically.
Then her clients can’t wait to get stuck in!
Tanya always conducts an initial consultation
(apart from smoking cessation therapy). This
helps her to gather the necessary information
needed to make sure she offers the right therapy
to the right client. This also helps the client
feel comfortable talking to her and helps
get a better insight into their own lives
and a greater understanding that their life
really can change! While Tanya encourages
her clients through the therapy, she also
believes in education. Helping her clients
to understand some of the psychological workings
of their mindset can help greatly.
Of course, Tanya assures her clients that
there will be some tears to shed during the
course of therapy, but helps explains how
healthy that is. Take a look at the link below
to understand why:

In any event, the initial consultation takes
about 45 minutes to an hour and covers all
areas of the client’s life; how their life
is working or not working now, back to their
childhood. Their current relationship back
to their relationships with family. This helps
Tanya understand certain patterns in a clients
life... and often a client can make connections
to their condition too! There is never any
obligation for further therapy, but most of
her clients sign up for ‘the ride’ because
they can start to see the light at the end
of their dark tunnel... and know for certain,
it isn’t a fast train coming in the opposite
direction!
